Guttering Style & Colours

What about the traditional period look I love so much?”

Cast iron effect Guttering And Downpipes

Guttering and downpipes may not seem like the most glamorous topic to discuss, but for those of us who appreciate the beauty of traditional architecture, they hold a special place in our hearts. There is something timeless and elegant about the traditional period guttering and downpipes that can enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of a building.

These architectural elements not only serve a practical purpose by channeling rainwater away from the roof and foundation, but they also contribute to the architectural character of a property. Traditional period guttering and downpipes, often made of materials such as cast iron or copper, have a distinct charm and durability that can withstand the test of time.

One of the aspects that make these traditional features so appealing is their ornate design. Intricate patterns and decorative motifs are often incorporated into the guttering and downpipes, transforming them into exquisite architectural details. The craftsmanship involved in these designs is truly remarkable and can elevate the visual appeal of any building.

In addition to their aesthetic value, traditional period guttering and downpipes also offer practical benefits. They are typically larger in size compared to modern alternatives, allowing for better water flow and less risk of blockages. This can help to prevent water damage to the property and ensure the longevity of the guttering system.

While modern alternatives may offer convenience and easier installation, they often lack the character and authenticity that traditional guttering and downpipes provide. If you are someone who appreciates the charm and heritage of older architectural styles, opting for traditional period guttering and downpipes can be a great choice.

So, if you find yourself drawn to the timeless beauty of traditional architecture, don’t overlook the importance of guttering and downpipes. Embracing the elegance of traditional period guttering and downpipes can add a touch of sophistication to your property while preserving the charm of a bygone era.

At Enhance Exteriors, we supply and fit aluminium or cast-iron gutters with a choice of period and heritage profiles. Perfect for older properties, buildings in conservation areas and places of architectural or historic interest, these traditional guttering types comes with an attractive coloured finish. Installations are undertaken to exceptionally high standards.

CLOGGED GUTTERING AND DOWNPIPES

Leaves, twigs, soil, winter debris and even roofing materials which have eroded through adverse weather can clog the top of the guttering system and the downpipe opening. We recommend that uPVC fascias, uPVC soffits and the gutters, in particular, have at least one inspection every year – ideally when the seasons change from winter to spring.

If your Stevenage, Hitchin or Letchworth property is surrounded by trees, an accumulation of debris or other blockages will occur more frequently. Mesh and hedgehog gutter guards can be integrated to stop waste materials and debris from obstructing the water flow. Indeed, these are typical features on all guttering installations from Enhance Exteriors.

SAGGING AND BADLY-PITCHED GUTTERING AND DOWNPIPES

Gutters and downpipes can pull away from the supporting fascia and soffit boards if they are not securely fastened or if there is too much debris weighing the guttering down. This will cause the guttering to sag, which needs to be tightened with new screws and tussles. If this is left unchecked, sagging affects the angles of the gutters.

To effectively drain standing water from, Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Hertfordshire or Bedfordshire properties with flat roofs, the structure of a gutter should gradually slope a quarter of an inch for every 10 feet of piping installed. Sagging or poorly pitched gutters can affect drainage and limit excess water from running off properly.
